1MALAYSIA FURTHER MARGINALISED THE MUSLIMS?

By HAMZAH ABDULLAH

We have witnessed lately news coverage in the mainstream medias be it in Sabah or at the national level on the smartness of Chinese political leaders, prominent and influential Chinese business leaders and Chinese NGOs in positioning themselves on the 1Malaysia slogan by making demands from the government to channel more funds to Chinese schools and their temples.

The Chinese excel and dominated virtually every aspects of life be it in the educational or economic spheres in this country and played kingmaker role in Malaysia's political scenario.

The Chinese are also good at appointing influential UMNO YBs to sit on the Board of Directors of their companies in order that these YBs could be used as bridges to gain more economic opportunities such as government contracts and also to acquire lands for agriculture, aquaculture or constructing of shopping lots, and worst of all to legitimise the widespread issuance of faked Sijil Anak Negeri certificates etc., etc.,

The UMNO/BN YBs appeared very complacent with monetary gains they received as kickbacks for their dumbness on the issue of faked Sijil Anak Negeri as was recently exposed by En Hassnar Ebrahim and also from their role in getting government projects for the companies on which they sit as Board of Directors

While the Chinese are good at making lots of demands for their community, the Muslim leaders in UMNO could only speak, speak, speak like 'tin kosong' (empty cans).

What has MUIS done to uplift the educational standard of Islamic schools and revising teachers' salaries who have been very commited in discharging their responsibilities and are still earning a take home pay of no more than RM800.00 monthly?

Why has MUIS been keeping dumb on the failure to build up a mosque as promised by the developer on the land owned by MUIS at Mile 5, Jalan Utara in Sandakan?

Why can't MUIS make public the revenues it earned from the project of which it is a co-developer with IJM on that land which measured slightly less than 500 acres and where the revenues are channelled to?

Why has USIA given out the prime land in Kota Kinabalu to 1Borneo when USIA could have used the land to construct bazaar-style trading outlets which could be afforded by small scale Muslim enterpreneurs?

Why has there been no surau constructed in 1Borneo to enable Muslims to perform their prayers while shopping at the mall?

Why has USIA failed to clarify to the public on news circlulating in town that it was given a raw deal by the co-developer on the building that it should own up which was later switched to the one at the back and not the one at the front as earlier agreed upon.

Why has USIA done nothing to assist Muslim lawyers who should equally share the job of preparing the Sale and Purchase agreement on properties at 1Borneo?

Restricting students from taking up more than 10 subjects at the SPM level as announced by the DPM-cum-Minister for Education, proved just another blunder of the 1Malaysia slogan "PEOPLE FIRST, PERFORMANCE NOW'.

What performance are UMNO/BN leaders talking about when students proved they can perform better with all As in the 21 subjects they enrolled for as manifested by Nik Nur Madihah, a Kelantanese who scored 1As in all the 21 subjects.

Restricting students from taking more than 10 subjects speaks for itself the hypocrisy of the slogan PERFORMANCE NOW because you are actually not in favour of students who can perform to perform simply because these students are mainly from Sekolah Menengah Agama.
